Ofsted's report on early years childcare found that extended school child care was more likely to be "inadquate" than any other childcare setting, but in another report on extended schools it gave them a glowing commendation.

Teaching assistants in primary schools are least likely to be paid accross the year, have fewest contracted hours and do most unpaid overtime, according to this research study funded by the Government.

Most school dinners don't meet required nutritional standards  because caterers are not serving the food specified in their contracts, and no-one is monitoring them, says this study.

Leeds school library service web site has some useful advice for anyone setting up a primary school library, and a simplified subject classification scheme. The Campaign for Literacy in Primary Education has also published guidelines for primary school libraries
